2670 Maplewood was constructed by builder Nathaniel Heffelbower and his partner E. E. Hooker on lot 80 Collingwood Addition which they bought on May 23, 1907 from the Collingwood Land & Improvement Company.  They took out the building permit on August 13 of that year.  The 1910 Polk City Directory shows that Fred Gear, a traveling agent, was the resident.
