The Historic Old West End in Toledo, Ohio - Glenwood Avenue



A newspaper society item, dated April 5, 1902 reported that Mr. an Mrs. Sol A. LaSalle moved to their new home on Glenwood Avenue. Solomon A. LaSalle and his wife lived at 2136 Glenwood between 1902 and 1913. The 1910 Census also listed his wife Frances and their daughter Amy. Mr. LaSalle was the treasurer of the LaSalle & Koch Company. His live-in domestics that year were Anna Norwalk and Emma Schumacher. The 1918 directory listed Edward Herzog who owned a wholesale liquor business at 116 Summit which gave employment to his children, Myra and Stanley. The 1921 directory listed Carlton Baumgardner whose biography appeared in Toledo & Lucas County Vol. 3 on page 26.

The Lucas County Auditor's records listed the construction year of 2560 Glenwood as 1913 on lot 129 of the Baldwin Heights Addition. Contractor Mano S Ramseyer built this home for Louis Comlossy at a cost of $3,500. Louis Comlossy, a jeweler at 613 Madsion Avenue,.was listed as the occupant of this house in both 1918 and 1921. A garage was constructed in 1919 at a cost of $200. Ralph Comlossy, a jeweler, roomed in this home. Jessie Comlossy was a music teacher who worked at 321.5 Huron Street. Alice, Arthur, Howard, George and Frank Comlossy also roomed here. William Gardiner, an agent with the New York Life Insurance Company, and his wife Marcella were the residents in 1935. Mr. Gardiner's biography appeared in Maumee Valley, Toledo and the Sandusky Region Vol. 3 on page 52. Their daughter was Joyce Gardiner.
