The Historic Old West End in Toledo, Ohio - Robinwood Avenue



The 1900, 1910, 1918 and 1929 Polk city directories all listed Edwin Marshall as the resident of 2347 Robinwood. The home was designed by Mills, Rheinhart & Bellman and constructed in 1899. An alteration (#1769) took place in 1912. In 1900 Mr. Marshall was the vice-president of the Haughton Elevator & Machine Company. His wife was Helen (Broadman) Marshall. The family employed Julia Danner as their live-in domestic. The 1910 and later directories listed Mr. Marshall as a lawyer whose biography and photograph appeared in Toledo & Lucas County Vol. 2 on page 132 and Maumee Valley, Toledo and the Sandusky Region Vol. 3 on page 34. Helen Klusky was the family domestic in 1910.

On August 8, 1891 W C Adams took out a permit for a $3,000 house to be constructed on Robinwood Avenue. The 1896 city directory listed William Adams as living at 2431 Robinwood which is an address that disappeared from later directories. The 1900, 1910, 1918 and 1921 city directories listed the occupant of 2445 Robinwood as William Adams who became the secretary and treasurer of the Fred Adams & Son Company located at 619-21 Monroe Street. Mr. Adams was seriously injured in July 1903 when a horse he was inspecting to purchase, kicked him resulting in serious abdominal injuries. In 1921 Willard Adams, a salesman with Fred Adams & Son which was a wholesale feed dealer, lived in the family home. Augusta Jerendt served the family in 1896, Clara Lipke in 1900, and Bertha Waigand was the Adams' live-in domestic in 1910.
