1943 Upton was the site of the Walter Ruth home designed and built by the Carl E. Mehring Company, noted architects and builders.  A "Mehring-Built Home" was considered one of originality, quality and character.  The Kelsey & Freeman Lumber Company furnished the wood for the house.  Mr. Ruth was the chief chemist with the Toledo Rex Spray Company.
