The home of Birchard A. Hayes at 2112 Ashland Avenue.  The 1891 Polk City Directory indicated that Mr. Hayes., a lawyer with Swayne, Swayne & Hayes, lived here.  The live-in domestic that year was Angelina Mills while in 1900 Mary and Matilda Beier were the Hayes' domestics.  The 1910 city directory listed Mrs. Hulda Buffett, the widow of Lewis Buffett, as the resident of this home.  The chauffeur in 1910 for Mrs. Buffett was Edward Estes who lived here also.
