Engine House #17 was located at 2913-19 Detroit Avenue about two miles from Engine House #4 at Bancroft and Monroe, so that a horse-drawn steamer only had to travel one mile at most to reach a fire. Architect George B. Rheinfrank designed the edifice in 1908. The May 26, 1908 issue of the Toledo News-Bee contained an advertisement by the Board of Safety for bids for the construction of a new fire engine house on Detroit Avenue near Nessle. The fire station opened May 15, 1909 and still stands in 2021 although vacant. | |||||
