322 Winthrop Street was constructed in 1909 by Benjamin F Laird for $4,500.  George Werner, formerly of 2338 Franklin in 1907, was the occupant at 322 Winthrop according to the 1910, 1918 and 1921 Polk city directories.  In 1910 Mr. Werner was a city agent with Church & McConnell Company, but by 1918 was a salesman with the Harnitt & Hewitt Company.  The 1910 directory listed Leo Werner, a clerk with the Toledo Blade, the 1918 directory listed roomer Charles Werner, a soldier, while the 1921 directory listed roomer George Werner Jr. as a student.  Also in 1921, Johanna Baumgardner, the widow of Joseph Baumgardner, was listed as a roomer.
