Designed by the architectural firm headed by George Mills, the circa-1908 duplex at 424 Winthrop was altered in 1912 (#1832).  The 1910 Polk City Directory listed Mary Wolcott, the widow of Joseph Wolcott, who had in 1907 lived in the Miltimore.  The 1918 directory listed Walter Ross, the vice-president of the Guardian Trust & Savings Bank, while in 1921 the occupant was Alfred Koch, the vp and treasurer of Lasalle & Koch.  Mr. Koch's biography and photograph appeared in the Toledo & Lucas County Supplement on page 214 and Toledo & Lucas County Vol. 3 on page 322.  His wife was Helen (Copelin) Koch.
